The River Group’s Editorial Content Director and 2016 BSME Chair yesterday hosted the first ever BSME conference, named Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway: How To Futureproof You And Your Brand.

The all-star line-up at the conference, which was held at Central Saint Martins, included Alexandra Shulman, Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue; Tony Chambers, Editor-in-Chief of Wallpaper; Sam Baker, Editor and CEO of The Pool; Louise Chunn, Founder of Welldoing.org; Lucie Cave, Editor-in-Chief of Heat; Noel Penzer, CEO of Time Out Digital; and Zoe Williams, columnist and author.

In her welcoming address, Irvin said it was ‘about time’ the BSME – the voice and champions of editorial excellence in the UK – held a conference and galvanised its members to cut through the noise of content commoditisation and speak out for the journalistic talent and experience the BSME represents.

‘The quality and gravitas of the speakers who lent their time, insight and expertise to the conference are a reflection of the importance the BSME has in the industry, and the importance we all place on recognising editorial excellence in content,’ says Irvin. ‘That this event was standing room only also shows what a big draw magazine brands and the content their teams create continue to be.’
