Group Content Director

The role of the Group Content Director is to champion creative excellence internally and externally.

You will work closely with the Managing Director and Account Directors to ensure creative excellence across all accounts, motivate editorial staffs, participate in all omni-channel new business pitches, oversee any new client briefs and be accountable for the creative output of the business. You will also lead innovation for the creative teams and develop new capability for the group. As a senior leader you will build effective relationships internally and externally and represent The River Group at relevant events.

This is the most senior creative role in the business and as such the Group Content Director will be highly visible across all internal teams and our clients. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspire and manage Creative, Editorial and Design staff, including freelance resource
  • Lead/ participate in internal lunches/talks
  • Attend reviews with key creative staff
  • Sign off all content (Print, Audio and Digital) including magazine covers alongside Creative Directors responsible for specific publications
  • Attend client meetings and key client reviews
  • Oversee new product launches; owned media and client brands
  • Drive creative excellence and strategy across all new business pitches
  • Oversee and approve all award entries
  • Deliver (inline with River Policies) all staff development programmes
  • Ensure legal matters are dealt with professionally and in a timely manner
  • Deal with any disciplinary procedures alongside the appropriate manager & HR 
  • Recruit and develop the best creative talent in the industry
  • Oversee the recruitment of senior Creative, Editorial and Design staff
  • Recruit new teams for new account wins and ensure the product and direction are as pitched and agreed
  • Direct and guide the creative process with authority and confidence whilst being collaborative with all levels of creative talent
  • Conduct reviews with key creative staff and clients 

About You:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the industry with a strong emphasis on digital marketing channels, including but not limited to Paid Social, Web, Podcasts and e-CRM
  • Core knowledge of multi-channel content strategy as well as magazine creative strategy and integrated marketing  
  • Skilled in brand strategy and client management
  • Able to deliver unique ideas from concept to roll out
  • Able to build rapport and long-term relationships both internally and externally 
  • Proactive and positive approach
  • Excellent people skills, able to build rapport and long-term relationships both internally and externally, inspire, manage and motivate others
  • A passionate creative with extensive experience of working with major clients in the Retail, Pharmacy, Insurance and Charity sectors (desirable)
  • Able to represent The River Group at speaking engagements (desirable)
