Who we are

Built to disrupt. Trusted to stay.

The original River pitch involved scaling a wall, a box of chocolates and absolutely no permission.

It made us stand out and we still believe in standing out today. We say no to beige.

We don’t make things to fill feeds. We make things people would miss if they disappeared.

For us, that means stories that sell. Stories that build brands, shape culture, earn attention and drive action.

Stories that work in a thirty-second TV spot, a 10-second social post, a magazine headline, a podcast script, a retail experience or a comment section.

Stories that connect every touchpoint.

To get there, we ask difficult questions. We move quickly. We care deeply about the work and the people it’s for.

Most of all, we believe the brands that win aren’t the ones shouting the loudest.

They’re the ones people actually remember.

Fancy a chocolate?

Our offices

In need of a collaborative, friendly workspace in the creative district of London? Then we'd love you to pop into our bright, buzzy offices in Farringdon.

A fiercely independent and privately owned agency, we're a welcoming work hub that offers lunch & learns and a wide range of workshops. With continuous mentoring from peers and colleagues, we're always championing each other's skill sets, so everyone feels a deep respect and understanding.

Plus we're in close proximity to clients, lunch spots and the Tube. Lastly, we’re proudly dog-friendly too – because we understand the logistics of life can always do with a doggy snuggle.

We make people care.

About brands. About products. About ideas. By blending editorial thinking with commercial focus, we create content that connects emotionally and performs commercially.

Because when people care, they act.

Founder's Story:

Nicola Murphy

Nicki founded The River Group in 1994 with a belief that great content should do more than fill space. It should change minds, shape behaviour and drive commercial results.

More than three decades later, that belief still defines the business.

A former Procter & Gamble marketer turned serial entrepreneur, Nicki has built River into one of the UK's leading content agencies while founding and co-founding businesses across sectors including PR, beauty, coaching, property and the arts.

Away from the day job, she's a passionate advocate for women in business and dedicates significant time to charitable causes including the Katie Piper Foundation and Sophie Hayes Foundation.

For Nicki, success has never been about growth alone. It's about creating opportunities, challenging convention and leaving things better than you found them.

And if there's a marathon or Hyrox event on the horizon, she's probably already signed up.

Danielle Welton

Content & Digital Strategy Director

In a world in which technology, society and personal attitudes have dramatically changed the way consumers behave, you have to blend stand-out creative ideas with superb strategic thinking, incredible channel knowledge and laser-sharp copy. I marry all those things with an entrepreneurial spirit and a good sense of humour, which is why people like working with me. I've worked with big B2C and B2B brands, such as Vitality, Holland & Barrett, Lloyds Pharmacy, Sainsbury's, Starling and many more. I have helped to build and grow apps, launched websites, written pitches for VC investment, revamped email flows, overhauled tone of voice guides, rebranded companies, created new content strategies, powered existing ones and written for every channel going. Phew. I also have some brilliant stats, testimonies and accolades that show how the approach I take gets results.

He’s now Chief Revenue Officer at River and has set up the Business Consulting Unit to bring business transformation projects to market for clients manoeuvring through an increasingly complex landscape and difficult trading environment.
