Linzi Pucino, Assistant Food Editor of Co-op Food, speaks to us about her recent trip to York, along with Editor Sarah Akhurst. While there, they whipped up 100+ portions of curry for a community shoot for an upcoming issue of Co-op Food
The Your Cafe group, based in York, serves up a weekly lunch at the Tang Hall Community Centre. The dishes (three courses!) utilise leftover produce/ingredients from local supermarkets and are typically for people in the local community who suffer from social isolation. We worked with five fab volunteers who regularly give up their time to do this, and they helped us cook up a selection of six curries.
I travelled to York the day before to prep, so that we had enough food – sometimes they feed as many as 80 people! Between my 72 portions and the portions we made with the volunteers on the day, it’s safe to say there were full stomachs and smiles all round. We captured moments in both still and video format, and these will be used across multiple platforms as part of Co-op’s 2019 curry campaign.
- We cleared the local Co-op of 20 large naans and 48 poppadoms
- I chopped 26 onions (there were tears)…
- …and crushed 49 cloves of garlic
- Sarah washed approximately 16,572 pots and pans…
- …and cooked a LOT of rice.
